November'20 Message from Vice President

Bill Rheaume

Vice President Skål International

Finding our way in troubled times.

Watching the news these days can really affect a person’s well-being. Having a positive outlook is a characteristic of good mental and emotional health.

According to Maslow, humans must have their emotional needs met before they can be concerned with other needs. We all need to keep this in mind as we continue to face declining economies, more COVID related restrictions and threats to our businesses. Being positive is a choice we can make every day; we need to re-energize by finding something to look forward to no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.

I was perusing the various tourism-based publications this week and came across a few headlines that gave me some hope and I thought I would share these with you…

  • Airlines are finding innovative ways to encourage travel again as additional destinations are added to quarantine safe lists.

  • At some Canadian airports, rapid-test trials have begun, intended to replace 14-day quarantines.

  • Hospitality CEO’s are starting to show optimism for a strong Tourism recovery.

  • The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) is working with governments and IATA on initiatives to revive International air travel.

  • Digital tools connecting businesses and customers are more accepted, improving contact-free hotel experiences.

While more and more virtual experiences are available to fill the void, we are all eager to resume international travel and enjoy the live experience. Until that day returns, stay safe, stay healthy, stay vigilant but do go and treat yourself to an enjoyable ‘close to home’ Tourism experience.

Everything you have ever wanted… is sitting on the other side of fear” - George Addair
